The Dallas Cowboys are currently searching for their next head coach. One name coming up in rumors is Deion Sanders. If Sanders is hired, could the Cowboys move on from Dak Prescott?
247 Sports’ Jack Duffin suggested the Cowboys could trade Dak Prescott to the Cleveland Browns if they hired Sanders as the head coach. Sanders would likely want to draft either Travis Hunter or his son Shedeur Sanders if he were to take the Cowboys’ job.
“Financially the Cleveland Browns can make this work because they will turn each contract year into an option bonus and push the salary cap hits far out into the future,” wrote Duffin. “Dak will likely need to agree to this change because it is unlikely the Cowboys have the contract language that is standard in Browns contracts.”
The Browns have not reaped the benefits they thought would come with Deshaun Watson. Prescott could take over as the franchise quarterback. He is playing on a four-year, $240 million deal and will not be a free agent until 2029. The Browns have the second overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
Sanders and the Cowboys would guarantee at least one of either Hunter or his son. However, if they trade Prescott, they would want a quarterback, and the Titans could prevent them from drafting Shedeur Sanders. In the last two seasons with the Colorado Buffaloes, Sanders threw for 7,364 yards and 64 touchdowns. He also ran for eight touchdowns.
Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders is 40-18 as a head coach in college between Jackson State University and the University of Colorado. Sanders is a Hall of Famer, eight-time Pro Bowler, six-time All-Pro and won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys.
