Cowboys sign 2 experienced defenders to help out Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs

The Dallas Cowboys added some veteran defensive depth this week in hopes of having a bit of insurance behind their superstars.

NFL insider Aaron Wilson reports that the Cowboys have signed cornerback Robert Rochell and defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey.

Rochell has played five years in the NFL. He was part of the Rams’ most-recent Super Bowl championship and started five games that season for L.A.

Before this, Rochell spent a portion of the offseason with the Chiefs, but they released him earlier in June. Rochell played for the Packers in 2024.

The Cowboys have strong cornerbacks with the likes of Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, but injuries have been a bugaboo for that position group. Rookie Shavon Revel is coming off an ACL tear, too.

Winfrey was the 108th overall pick in 2022 by the Browns, but he ran into legal trouble and then an injury.

The big interior lineman was waived by Cleveland in July 2023, joined the Jets, then went on injured reserve in December 2023. He didn’t get a contract for 2024.

At defensive tackle, Dallas has star Osa Odighizuwa, along with the likes of Mazi Smith and Solomon Thomas.

Winfrey will probably compete with a pair of seventh-round rookies for backup spots along the defensive line.

These moves may wind up meaning nothing, but they’re easy chances worth taking for the Cowboys.
