Cowboys’ rookie RB with ‘tremendous upside’ urged to find consistency

Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue is still finding his feet in his first NFL season, and the former Texas Longhorn has gotten on the field more in the past couple of weeks.

With Miles Sanders’ injury, Blue has been a backup to Javonte Williams and has rushed for 29 yards in each of his last two games, on seven and eight carries, respectively.

Against the Denver Broncos in a 44-24 loss, Blue’s trademark burst and speed were on show, highlighted by a 14-yard run and yes, he did have a fumble that luckily the offense recovered, but there were good signs of what he could bring to Brian Schottenheimer’s offense.

But for Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, while Blue has shown glimpses, he, like the rest of the team, has to become more consistent.

“He’s a young player, that I think has tremendous upside,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “Everybody seen it, flashes, but at the same time, he’s got to be more consistent himself, and certainly the fumble didn’t end up hurting us, but he’s got to clean those type of things up. You see the juice that he has and the explosion that he can bring.

“But he’s a young player that I think is just going to continue to get better, but it’s got to start today. He’s just like the rest of us, we all got to get to work.”

Blue in line for more snaps vs. Cardinals

One would certainly hope so, and with Sanders out, we have seen Blue’s snap count rise over the past two weeks, with 15 against the Washington Commanders and 14 against Denver, accounting for 29 of his 45 total snaps in the past fortnight.

So, after a long road to get into the team with Blue injured and then needing to show the coaching staff that he can be more consistent, he is finally seeing the field, albeit briefly, and he is doing his best to make the most of it.

With the Arizona Cardinals coming to AT&T Stadium in Week 9, Jaydon, with another good week of practice, could be in line to continue his slow rise as part of Schottenheimer’s offense.
