The Dallas Cowboys still have a few needs that they didn’t address in the 2025 NFL Draft, including wide receiver. The team has hardly added to the position this offseason, and CeeDee Lamb needs some help.
Dallas missed a prime opportunity to acquire another reliable pass catcher during the draft, but SB Nation’s James Dator predicts the Cowboys will pull off a blockbuster trade for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens.
“The Dallas Cowboys, who were unable to get help at WR in the draft. The team was strongly linked to Arizona WR Tetairoa McMillan, but when Carolina taking him with the No. 8 overall pick it became difficult for Dallas to find a guy who can complement CeeDee Lamb. It’s possible the Steelers will elect to keep Pickens, but right now it seems like the Cowboys could get a deal done,” Dator wrote.
Pickens’ future with the Steelers is murky, as Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the team was taking calls on the young receiver ahead of the draft. Additionally, Pickens has had a ton of behavioral issues throughout his time in Pittsburgh, and general manager Omar Khan may not want to commit to a long-term extension.
Though he can be unpredictable at times, Dallas should look to trade for Pickens if he is still available. The 24-year-old would form a dynamic duo with Lamb and give quarterback Dak Prescott an explosive No.2 receiver on the perimeter.
Despite injuries and inconsistent quarterback play, Pickens had a solid 2024 campaign, posting 900 yards and three touchdowns on 59 receptions. The 2022 second-round pick tallied a 1,140-yard campaign in 2023.
There’s no denying Pickens’ talent, which is why it’s hard to see the Steelers moving on from him just yet. However, the Cowboys continue to be an intriguing landing spot for the electric receiver out of Georgia.
