The Dallas Cowboys’ search to find a reliable weapon to take some of the pressure off CeeDee Lamb has been fruitless, if one can even call it a search.
Lamb is one of the NFL’s best receivers, and the Cowboys rewarded him last August with a four-year, $136 million extension. Unfortunately, he was also their only pass-catcher with 700-plus yards in 2024, as Dallas struggled to a 7-10 record.
The Cowboys haven’t had much money to spend in free agency over the last two offseasons, hamstrung by the lucrative extensions for Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott. But they also cannot afford to neglect the wide receiver position any more than they already have.
Fortunately, one analyst sees the Cowboys finding a solution in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.
On Wednesday, CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell predicted that the Cowboys would select Texas wideout Matthew Golden, the fastest receiver at the 2025 NFL Combine, with the 12th-overall pick in April.
“Dallas is desperate for a capable WR2 to take some of the heat off of All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Fortunately for the Cowboys, the 2025 class’ 40-yard dash time leader (4.29 seconds) at the position, Texas’ Matthew Golden is available,” Podell wrote.

“He paced a Texas Longhorns bunch that returned to the College Football Playoff semifinals in both receiving yards (987) and receiving touchdowns (nine), the latter of which co-led the entire SEC this past season. Jerry Jones also loves his Texas connections.”
Golden, 21, played in a run-heavy offense in college, so as good as his statistics were, there’s a chance he could put up similar or better numbers right away in the pass-happy NFL. And his speed on the outside would really open things up for Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson over the middle.
As always, the Cowboys will have plenty of choices when they’re on the clock, but Golden’s skill set is hard to pass up.
