Cowboys post-draft trade pitch lands Jets projected $28 million young star playmaker

The Dallas Cowboys are set to field a new-look running back room in 2025, as the team didn’t retain Rico Dowdle or Ezekiel Elliott and signed Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders as their replacements. Dallas also used a fifth-round pick in the draft on Texas standout Jaydon Blue.

Though the Cowboys could be comfortable with the current state of the position, Last Word on Sports’ David Latham believes Dallas could look to bolster the backfield by trading for New York Jets running back Breece Hall.

“The Dallas Cowboys have a strong roster with a franchise quarterback, a strong offensive line, and talented defensive playmakers, but they could use a running back as the cherry on top of this talented squad. Breece Hall is the best choice for the job, and the trade target could thrive in a new environment,” Latham wrote.

Hall’s future in New York is uncertain, as he is set to hit unrestricted free agency next offseason and could have a diminished role in 2025, as the Jets plan to utilize a running back by committee approach under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand.

If New York decides to move on from Hall, the Cowboys should look to acquire him. The 23-year-old has been productive behind a subpar Jets offensive line over the last two seasons and can also contribute in the passing game. Hall’s dynamic skillset would take a ton of pressure off quarterback Dak Prescott and make Dallas’ offense much more versatile.

There are some risks involved with trading for Hall, as he is under contract for just one more season, and his efficiency has dropped every year since his rookie campaign. However, the Cowboys should take a risk and trade for the Iowa State product and see if he can elevate them to another level.

If Hall plays well, Dallas should consider signing him to an extension, which Spotrac projects will be worth $28.2 million over four seasons. But if he disappoints, then the Cowboys will just have to cut their losses and move on.
