The Dallas Cowboys’ offense has been elite for most of the season, but due to the poor play of the defense, the performances of Dak Prescott and Co. have been for nothing.
Sitting at 3-4-1 with Matt Eberflus’ team seemingly in crisis talks every week, such has been the bad nature of their play, and the 44 points allowed against the Denver Broncos, the latest in a string of bad performances, many think the offense has to be perfect for the team to stand a chance to win games.
Everyone has rebuffed that notion, but it is becoming clear that it doesn’t matter how good the offense is; the defense will allow more points than Prescott and Brian Schottenheimer can score.
But does running back Javonte Williams feel the offense has to score more points to overcome the defense?
“I wouldn’t say that,” Williams said. “We still believe in the defense. I don’t know what it is that they’re on miscommunication or something like that, but I mean, I feel they’ll figure it out before it’s over with.”

Should Cowboys have confidence in defense?
At the time of writing, there is nothing that suggests there should be confidence in this defense because the stats are alarming.
Through the first eight games, the defense is allowing 31.3 points per game (ranks 31st), 146 rush yards per game (ranks 29th), allows nine rushing first downs per game (worst in football), allows a third down conversion 52 percent of the time (league worst), and 258 pass yards per game (ranks 31st).
So, there is a lot wrong with the defense, but the Cowboys seem confident in Matt Eberflus’ ability to turn this ship around. However, right now, many don’t see where the improvement is going to come from. With the bye week after Monday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, maybe it will be there that things smooth out.
But right now, you will be hard-pressed to find a single soul who has confidence in this Dallas defense.
