Micah Parsons and the Cowboys are in a standoff.
Neither side looks to be holstering their weapon anytime soon.
Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie contract and wants a market-setting contract extension.
Owner Jerry Jones and the Dallas front office have recent experience with expensive deals after signing Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to massive extensions just last season.
But just like those players, it looks like Parsons will have to wait until the last possible moment to get his deal.
Micah Parsons gives contract extension update
In the most recent update in the very public negotiations, the edge rusher pushed back on the theory that he and the Cowboys have a “handshake deal” done already.
Clarence Hill Jr. of DLLS Sports posted on ‘X’ that “A hand shake deal is done already,” in response to Stephen Jones saying the deal would “ultimately” get done.
Parsons quickly refuted those claims.

The young superstar is a bit cryptic here so let’s translate.
The five hat emojis refer to ‘cap’ which is another way to call a statement false.
Simply put, Parsons is saying there is no handshake deal in place and anyone saying otherwise is speculating.
He followed up on the post 30 minutes later, referencing the blockbuster movie Sinners to show his feelings on a handshake deal.

Spoiler alert: There is a handshake deal made by Michael B. Jordan’s characters in Sinners that is eventually betrayed. Parsons wants to avoid any deals that aren’t written in ink.
The highest paid edge rusher right now is Myles Garrett at 4-years, $160 million. Parsons would want to get close if not break that number.
But in Dallas, the gears turn slowly on record-setting contracts. It could be a long road ahead for both sides.
