Cowboys could trade for Myles Garrett who begged the team to draft him in 2017

The Dallas Cowboys will have to be aggressive this offseason if they want to make it back to the playoffs. Could they make a trade for Myles Garrett who once dreamt of being a Cowboy?

Cleveland Browns superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett has requested a trade from the Browns according to a statement he released. Garrett is one of the best players in the league and was born in Arlington, Texas. Before he was drafted in 2017, he was seen in a video pleading for the Cowboys to draft him.

“Make it happen. Dak Prescott leading our team right now,” Garrett said in a video before he was drafted. “I need you to take Tony Romo, take a couple of picks, and give them to Cleveland so you can pick me up. Please, I’d love to play in Dallas. Please just make it happen.”

Garrett obviously was selected first overall by the Browns and has been a home run selection out of Texas A&M University. He has 102.5 career sacks, six Pro Bowl selections, four First-Team All-Pro selections and a Defensive Player of the Year Award. Garrett signed a five-year, $102 million extension in 2020.

He has two seasons left on his deal and could still be a difference-maker for the Cowboys. The Cowboys were decimated by injuries last season, but have perhaps the most important piece in winning a Super Bowl: a franchise quarterback. If Prescott is healthy, the Cowboys have an electric offense led by him and CeeDee Lamb.

Bringing Garrett to Dallas would likely cost the Cowboys their first-round pick and much more. However, pairing Garrett and Micah Parsons would give Dallas the best pass-rush duo in the league.
