Cowboys could do unthinkable, steal Aaron Rodgers away from Steelers

The Dallas Cowboys are expecting Dak Prescott to be back and healthy this season. His return could help make the Cowboys playoff contenders again.

However, Prescott’s health may not be something the Cowboys can necessarily rely on. He has missed 26 games in the last five seasons. The Cowboys can no longer rely on Cooper Rush to keep them competitive after he left in free agency. The team traded for Joe Milton, but he is far from ready to lead a team. Bleacher Report’s Mitch Milani tabbed the Cowboys as a landing spot for Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers is most likely going to end up with the Pittsburgh Steelers if he chooses to keep playing. He visited the team’s facility and even had a throwing session with DK Metcalf. However, his free agency could drag on long enough for situations around the league to change.  Rodgers noted on the “Pat McAfee Show” that he is in no hurry to sign as he is dealing with undisclosed things in his personal life that are more important than football.

Rodgers could very well not sign until training camp starts in July. Milani suggested that if Prescott were to get hurt, the Cowboys could give Rodgers a call.

“This (Brian) Schottenheimer offense would not be too far off from the Mike McCarthy-style offense that Aaron Rodgers ran at a high level for so many years in Green Bay,” Milani said. “I could see that working out if Dak does get hurt.”

He is a 10-time Pro Bowler, a four-time All-Pro, a Super Bowl champion and a four-time NFL MVP. It would take something unforeseen for him to land anywhere besides Pittsburgh, but the Cowboys may not be willing to hand the keys to Joe Milton if Prescott suffered another injury.
