Conor McGregor could finally make his return to combat sports — however, it may be in the ring, not the Octagon.
The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion revealed fight news to the world early Tuesday morning, as McGregor posted on X, formerly Twitter, that he has agreed to fight Logan Paul in a boxing bout in India.
McGregor has not fought since 2021 when he broke his leg in a TKO loss in the trilogy against Dustin Poirier. He was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler, a former Bellator lightweight champion, but McGregor pulled out of their scheduled fight in June due to a foot injury. With no other date in sight, Chandler opted to fight UFC former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira rather than wait around for McGregor.
While it’s been over three years since the “Notorious” has fought, it’s been over seven since he has boxed on the professional level. He fought Floyd Mayweather in 2017, losing the bout via 10th-round TKO.
If the fight with Paul indeed happens, McGregor would be the latest high-profile name that opposes a Paul brother in the ring. Logan’s younger brother, Jake, fought Mike Tyson in mid-November, winning by unanimous decision. McGregor would join Nate Diaz, Tyron Woodley, Mike Perry, Anderson Silva and Ben Askren as former UFC stars to step into the boxing ring with a Paul brother.
Here is everything to know about the “agreed” fight between McGregor and Paul.

Is Conor McGregor fighting Logan Paul?
So far, there is no official word about a bout agreement between McGregor and Paul. As the Irishman said in his tweet, he is in “preliminary agreements,” so there is still plenty of work to be ironed out.
The rumors of a bout with topurio are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India.
I have agreed.
I will then seek my return to the Octagon.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) December 17, 2024
With that said, the only news so far about the fight is from McGregor himself, who isn’t exactly known for telling the truth or keeping his word. The “Notorious” stated plenty of times over the past two years that he intended to fight Chandler, yet that fight still has not come to fruition, and may never.
Mcgregor would need permission from UFC CEO Dana White to box. He is under contract still with the UFC, and the organization would have to sign off on any outside deal. White and Co. did it before for the Mayweather fight, but may not be inclined to do so again.
There is also the fact that Paul announced his retirement from boxing in November 2023. It’s not uncommon for fighters to “retire”, only to come back and compete late on, so we’ll see if that is the case with Paul.
There has been no confirmation or denial from Paul’s side, nor any insight from the Ambani family, the richest family in India.

In 2021, Paul also got into the ring with Mayweather, facing the former boxing champion in an exhibition fight. The eight-round fight was not scored.
The last time Paul fought on the boxing scene was in 2023. The YouTube star squared off against MMA fighter Dillon Danis in England, winning via sixth-round disqualification.
