Commanders’ Terry McLaurin’s outfit tells the story of his latest contract update

It’s not all that long ago that Terry McLaurin spoke glowingly about wanting to stay with the Washington Commanders.

But on Saturday, his outfit told the story of a superstar wide receiver who is bummed out about how things are going in contract extension talks.

McLaurin broke out a hoodie, with the hood up, after warmups on Saturday for the Commanders’ preseason finale.

The wideout, of course, isn’t playing. He isn’t practicing, either.

McLaurin is entering the final year of his current contract and wants an extension with a raise.

He has also requested a trade, whether for real or as an attempt at a negotiating tactic.

The Commanders aren’t giving in, and so McLaurin wasn’t even in uniform on Saturday:

McLaurin is due to make $23 million this season, and he’s seeking something more like $33 million after that’s what draft classmate DK Metcalf got from the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this offseason. Metcalf is younger, but McLaurin’s production has been more consistently excellent.

The Commanders have a legitimate chance to chase a Super Bowl in the next couple of years with star QB Jayden Daniels on a rookie deal. That allows money to be spent elsewhere.

Where better to spend it than on WR1? McLaurin seems to be worth it, and it’s clear he’s not happy with how everything has gone so far. The Commanders could still turn this around. All it takes is a compromise and a deal.
