It was an amazing 2024 season for the Washington Commanders as they reached the NFC title game, but fell to the Philadelphia Eagles. Furthermore, Washington found their franchise quarterback in Jayden Daniels, who hit the ground running.
Last season, Daniels played in 17 regular-season games, completing 69 percent of his passes for 3,568 receiving yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Heading into his second season, the question is, can the 24-year-old surpass this production?
Veteran tight end Zach Ertz has been a major fan of Daniels before he took an NFL snap in the regular season and believes that the Commanders quarterback has only scratched the surface of his potential.
Can Commanders’ Jayden Daniels take his game to next level?
Ertz recently spoke with The Athletic’s senior NFL insider Dianna Russini and shared his thoughts on what he’s seeing from the LSU product as he prepares for Year 2 in the NFL.
“I mean, Jayden is phenomenal,” Ertz told Russini on the latest edition of “Scoop City.” “I’ve been saying it since we started working together… He was very talented. He’s definitely taking the next step.

Ertz added that Daniels is growing into his role as a leader and starting to leave his mark on the team, giving others a standard to follow.
“Everyone sees how good he is as a player, but he’s taking the next step behind the scenes, just leading this team, taking ownership of the offense, holding us to his standard, and holding himself to an extremely high standard,” Ertz added.
“He has high standards for himself, and it really resonates with the rest of the guys with how he approaches it, how detailed he is. Because if one of the best players in the league is doing that consistently, no matter how he’s in his first, second year, then it really just takes everyone to the next step. So we’re happy with where he’s at, for sure.”
