Commanders predicted to sign Bengals star to massive $108 million contract

Now that the Washington Commanders appear to have struck gold with quarterback Jayden Daniels, it is imperative that general manager Adam Peters surrounds him with as much talent as possible, especially at wide receiver.

The Commanders could potentially address that need in the 2025 NFL Draft, but with the Super Bowl window being open right now thanks to Daniels’ rapid ascension, they may want a quicker, more sure solution at the position.

One of the best options out there on the free-agent market will be wide receiver Tee Higgins, who is on a one-year franchise tag currently. CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani is predicting Higgins will sign a four-year, $108 million deal with Washington.

“Since Washington hit on Jayden Daniels, general manager Adam Peters understands his “Super Bowl window” is open right now,” Dajani wrote. He made the aggressive move to acquire New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore at the trade deadline, and could make one or two splash moves this offseason.

“Our prediction is that Washington signs former Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tee Higgins in free agency to a four-year, $108 million deal that carries an AAV of $27 million,” Dajani adds. “That would put Higgins in the top 10 of highest-paid wide receivers currently.”

The Bengals are almost certainly interested in keeping Higgins around, but they may balk at the idea of paying two wide receivers big money when you consider Ja’Marr Chase is up for a new contract, also.

The concern with Higgins is that he’s dealt with injury issues during his career, but the talent is undeniable. Combining Higgins, who would be a No. 1 for a lot of teams, with wide receiver Terry McLaurin would give Daniels a true embarrassment of riches at the position.

At $27 million per year, Higgins would be just inside the top 10 of the highest-paid wideouts in the NFL, which would be a fair spot for him to be. However, his price could get driven up if multiple teams are interested and aren’t worried about his injury issues.

Even still, the Commanders are well-equipped to get into a bidding war if that’s what it takes, with a projected $102.2 million in cap space in 2025, according to Over the Cap.

The No. 1 goal for the Commanders is building the team around Daniels in order to put him and the franchise in the best possible position to succeed. Adding Higgins would be a perfect move to help accomplish that goal.
