Colts part ways with DC Gus Bradley after three seasons

The Indianapolis Colts made their first big change of the offseason Monday, parting ways with defensive coordinator Gus Bradley.

The team announced the move Monday evening after Jim Irsay wrote a letter to fans explaining why general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen will return for the 2025 season.

Steichen told the media in his end-of-season press conference Monday that he was still evaluating the coaching staff decisions.

However, the decision was almost clear as day after it was announced that his job was safe.

“I’m appreciative of Gus and the commitment he made to the Colts,” Steichen said in a statement. “He is a man of great character, and I have the utmost respect for him. I felt like we needed to move in a different direction. I wish Gus and his family all the best moving forward.”

Though Bradley is hardly the reason why the Colts have missed the playoffs in each of the last four seasons, his defenses constantly broke down at the end of each campaign.

The Colts allowed the ninth-most points (25.1) and fourth-most yards (361.2) per game this season. Bradley likely lost his job when the Colts allowed the New York Giants to put up 45 points in a must-win game in Week 17.

There are some intriguing candidates available at defensive coordinator this offseason so it will be interesting to see where the Colts pivot to.
