As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, the Indianapolis Colts have one glaring need to address above the rest of the list.
With less than a month to go until the biggest offseason of the weekend, the Colts are expected to invest heavily in the tight end position. The current group of players making up the depth chart failed to make an impact in both seasons under head coach Shane Steichen.
That’s why the majority of analysts and pundits have the Colts slated to draft a high-end prospect like Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland next month. However, there’s another path in which the Colts could bring in an upgrade at the position while also reuniting a player with his former offensive coordinator.
Dallas Goedert trade proposal
Ethan Woodie of NFL Trade Rumors put together a list of trade proposals for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, and it’s no surprise the Colts are the first team mentioned as a potential landing spot.
Colts get: TE Dallas Goedert
Eagles get: 2025 fifth-round pick, 2026 sixth-round pick
“While their need for a tight end is the most obvious, the Colts are also the team most likely to aggressively attack this position in the draft. Indy attempted to trade up into the top 10 of last year’s draft for TE Brock Bowers, so we know they’re not afraid to make a move,” Woodie wrote. “This is probably not a trade they would entertain until after they see how the first round shakes out, and they may want to wait until Day 2 of the draft passes as well. If they come away from the first three rounds without a new starter at tight end, the Eagles should pick up the phone — if the Colts haven’t already.”

Even though Goedert hasn’t transformed into a game-breaking tight end, he’s done well when thrust into a bigger role due to injuries. He’s dealt with some ailments of his own, considering he hasn’t played a full season since his rookie campaign.
With that said, Goedert is sixth among all tight ends in receiving yards (2,620) and seventh in receiving yards per game (51.3) since the start of the 2021 season, according to Stathead. Steichen was Goedert’s offensive coordinator in 2021 and 2022 when he posted the two highest receiving yards marks of his career.
The Colts need more dynamic talent in the tight end room, and this is a move they should consider if they don’t land one of the top prospects in the first round.
