The Sanders family was the most talked-about group during last weekend’s NFL Draft. Much of the attention centered around Shedeur Sanders falling all the way to the fifth round. Additionally, Deion Sanders was reportedly trying to get too involved in the draft process on behalf of his son.
Cris Carter believes the Sanders family overplayed their hand, which contributed to Shedeur’s dramatic slide.
“Shedeur and his family, they overplayed their hand,” Carter said. “Them thinking that he was in the same evaluation mode as Eli Manning, they didn’t play that right. Them trying to narrow the teams that he was going to go to, that didn’t do right. Not working out at the combine, that wasn’t the right thing.”
Meanwhile, Deion’s other son, Shilo, made a bold move by firing his father as his agent and hiring a professional to represent him.
“Dad was our agent,” Sanders said. “But that hasn’t been working out too good. So today I had to sign with an agent.”
Though Shilo wasn’t selected in the draft, he did manage to secure an undrafted free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Head coach Todd Bowles gave an honest evaluation of the Colorado safety and appears to think highly of him.

“I think he’s a good football player,” Bowles said. “He’s a heck of a tackler and he knows the game very well — he can see the game very well.”
However, an interesting detail emerged regarding how the deal came together. Apparently, Sanders wouldn’t have landed a contract with the Bucs if not for his agent’s persistence.
“Sanders reportedly landed his recent deal with the Buccaneers after his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, ‘pleaded’ his case to Jason Licht,” NFL Rookie Watch posted.
Nonetheless, Sanders now has a shot to make the Bucs’ 53-man roster. But it will ultimately come down to his performance on the field — not the efforts of his agent.
