Shedeur Sanders is confident.
For that matter, so was the reporter that asked the Cleveland Browns’ rookie quarterback the question after Saturday’s preseason finale. The fifth-round rookie QB and former Colorado Buffaloes star was asked if he felt like he would make the Cleveland roster.
According to The Athletic’s Zac Jackson, Sanders paused.
And then he delivered a one-word response:
“Obviously.”

There’s definitely some sass to that. This is a guy slotted as the QB4 on the depth chart, after all. Teams don’t usually keep four quarterbacks.
Teams also don’t usually cut rookie QBs before even getting to their first regular season, though, certainly not after using a draft pick to get them.
Sanders was asked for a bit more insight, and this is what he offered, via Jackson:
“Overall, camp was great. Learning every day… Lot to improve on. Those sacks today were definitely on me.”

Sanders was sacked five times, including a 24-yard loss. He completed just three passes for 14 yards.
The talented rookie had played exceptionally well in Cleveland’s preseason opener two weeks ago. He missed the second game with an oblique injury, so his return to the field Saturday was a chance to prove he still should be a no-doubt roster selection.
Instead, Sanders did invite some doubt. It’s not clear whether the uncertainty exists within Cleveland’s building, but it definitely does outside the walls, and it creates some drama heading into Tuesday’s cut day.
