Colorado Buffaloes football ex-star Shilo Sanders gets $4,669 worth of bad news from NFL after punch and cut

A bad week got even a little worse for Shilo Sanders on Saturday.

Not only was he ejected from the preseason finale of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for throwing a punch. Not only was he waived, not claimed off waivers and still not signed as a free agent. Not only did he watch his former Colorado Buffaloes team lose their season opener to Georgia Tech on a late Hayne King 45-yard TD run.

He also got a fine from the NFL for his punch.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the league has fined Sanders $4,669 for the punch against Bills tight end Zach Davidson.

It was a moment that Bucs coach Todd Bowles called “inexcusable,” and it looks for the moment like the rest of the NFL might be feeling that way, too.

Shilo was a much more borderline NFL prospect than his brother Shedeur, who had the high-profile draft free fall from a first-round projection to a fifth-round reality.

At best, Shilo was probably a fifth-round pick. He ended up going undrafted and signing with the Buccaneers.

Clearly, there was a bit of belief in his talent to earn a contract, but not enough to get him drafted.

It may simply be that other teams don’t want to deal with the hype that comes with his last name and antics for a player who is at best a depth defensive back.

Shilo could be facing a harsh reality, or he could have another opportunity coming.

In the meantime, he’s got a four-digit fine to pay.
