The Coca-Cola 600 is the nightcap on a grand day in racing, and Kyle Larson is at the center of it.
Larson is again attempting to complete “the double” by racing in both the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in the same day. Weather prevented him from achieving the feat in 2024 and cut the Coca-Cola 600 short. This year, rain is back in the forecast — but the hope is it won’t be so much of an obstacle for Larson or the race itself.
The longest race on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, the Coca-Cola 600 is one of the most unique on the calendar. Will weather add another challenge for drivers?

NASCAR at Charlotte weather updates
(All times Eastern)
11:40 a.m. — Sunday won’t bring the most ideal weather for the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, but there is optimism that rain won’t seriously impact the race like it did in 2024.
Cloudy skies are expected throughout the day in Charlotte, with a 50 percent chance of showers at night, according to the National Weather Service. The highest chance of rain is expected to come after 9 p.m. ET, more than two-and-a-half hours after the start of the race.Â
The Weather Channel predicts a less than 20 percent chance of rain each hour leading up to midnight in Charlotte, so it looks like any precipitation that passes through the area would be light.Â
A passing shower might impact track conditions, but the chances of getting the Coca-Cola 600 in as scheduled are high. That’s also positive news for Larson, whose flight from Indianapolis to Charlotte shouldn’t be impacted by weather unless the forecast becomes much more dire.Â

Charlotte weather forecast
Temperatures are expected to hover near 74 degrees in Charlotte on Sunday with conditions cloudy, according to the National Weather Service. By the time the Coca-Cola 600 starts, the temperature are expected to be about 71 degrees.
The chances of rain in the early evening are low, only increasing after 9 p.m. ET. Even so, the National Weather Service only sees a 50 percent chance of rain throughout the night. The race is likely to start without issue, barring a dramatic change in the forecast.
NASCAR is hoping to get the Coca-Cola 600 in as scheduled for the first time since 2022. The 2023 edition was postponed to Monday due to rain, while 2024’s race was shortened to 249 laps due to severe weather.Â
Fortunately, any rain on Sunday night in Charlotte is not expected to include lightning.
