Clippers reportedly have interest in signing intriguing veteran guard

The Los Angeles Clippers are in search of a Norman Powell replacement after trading him to the Miami Heat.

The Clippers have already been heavily linked to Bradley Beal, who reportedly could be on the verge of a buyout with the Phoenix Suns. But it appears they also have their eyes on another veteran guard if things with Beal don’t work out.

NBA insider Michael Scotto reported Monday that Malcolm Brogdon has “drawn free agency interest” from the Clippers. The Clippers are far from the only team looking at potentially signing Brogdon with the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings and Milwaukee Bucks after his services as well, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

It was just three seasons ago that Brogdon was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year with the Boston Celtics, but the 32-year-old has lost his luster after playing just 63 games over the last two seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards due to injury.

Brogdon, who underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb prior to the start of last season, didn’t look like one of the more efficient players in the NBA with the Wizards. Brogdon played in just 24 games, in which he averaged a mediocre 12.7 points, 4.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds while shooting an abysmal 28.6% from 3-point range — by far the worst mark of his career.

Perhaps the surgery before the season and the injuries that followed can be attributed to Brogdon’s shooting woes. He shot 44.4% from deep during his lone season with the Celtics and 41.2% from 3-point range in his 39-game stint with the Trail Blazers.

A new start playing for a contender might just be exactly what Brogdon needs, but health will be the most important thing for him in trying to contribute wherever he lands.
