Cleveland Cavaliers star Evan Mobley isn’t just satisfied with DPOY, he has another major goal in mind

Cleveland Cavaliers star Evan Mobley just nabbed the 2025 NBA Defensive Player of the Year award, which makes him the first player in Cleveland Cavaliers history to do so, but Mobley has another goal in mind.

On a Zoom call that took place on Friday, Mobley told reporters at Sports Illustrated that this is only the beginning of what he wants to accomplish in the near future. “I mean, this is only the first of many,” he told them, adding, “So, I mean, my goal is to keep getting this award as many times as possible and go out there and show the league my defensive prowess and what I can do out there.”

The athlete also called the experiencing of winning DPOY “surreal,” noting that hit home hearing his name called, and knowing for certain that he had finally won the coveted honor. “I’ve been pursuing it for a few new years now,” he continued during the conference. “Got closer every year, and like this year that it all panned out the season, just how it went, how I played, how I elevated everything. Just, I feel like just came into fruition.

But…that isn’t all that Mobley wants to accomplish. In fact, DPOY is only the beginning for him and the Cavs. “Next is a championship, actually,” he stated confidently. “That’s the main focus right now, so back in playoff mode. Back trying to get another win tomorrow and continue this playoff run.” 

The Cavs keep marching forward in their quest to get that ring Mobley speaks of with game three against the Miami Heat, where they hold a 2-0 lead.
