Cleveland Browns set to make NFL Draft power move, select SEC QB to pair with Travis Hunter

Future NFL stars are still meeting with teams and working out to showcase their talents. With just a week remaining before the NFL Draft, several projected first-round picks are still trying to figure out where they’ll land. One name still surrounded by uncertainty is Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.

His teammate, Travis Hunter, believes Sanders could end up with the Cleveland Browns—unless the team is put off by a controversial comment he made just a few days ago. For Hunter, it seems to be all or nothing: play both sides of the ball or don’t play at all.

“It’s never playing football again,” Hunter said. “Because I’ve been doing it my whole life, and I love being on the football field. I feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball, so I really enjoy doing it.”

If the Browns decide to pass on Hunter, the New York Giants appear ready to pounce. Still, that scenario seems unlikely. With two veteran quarterbacks already on the roster, Hunter could be stepping into a prime situation. The Browns are reportedly planning a bold move—acquiring a second pick in the first round to land both Hunter and a franchise quarterback.

“Mississippi’s Jaxson Dart gives the Browns a quarterback with above-average physical tools to grow inside Kevin Stefanski’s offense,” Brent Sobleski wrote. “Dart has solid-to-good arm talent, but he throws with the right touch to layer passes over the heads of defenders.”

A mock draft has the Browns trading with the Minnesota Vikings to secure Dart, potentially pairing him with Hunter for the long term. For that scenario to unfold, the New Orleans Saints and the Pittsburgh Steelers would need to pass on the Ole Miss QB.

With only two years remaining on Deshaun Watson’s contract, drafting a young quarterback could be a smart move for Cleveland. However, if the Browns go with Dart, it may signal that Watson won’t see the end of his current deal.
