Clear frontrunner emerges for Eagles as future replacement for OC Kellen Moore

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has remained tight-lipped on his future throughout Super Bowl week, but the writing is on the wall.

Moore will reportedly become the 19th head coach in New Orleans Saints franchise history after the Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. The expected move will force Philadelphia to name a new offensive coordinator for the third consecutive offseason.

The bad news for Philly is that this will already be a shortened offseason, coming off a Super Bowl berth. The good news is that the team has a clear frontrunner to replace Moore, and he’s already on the coaching staff.

Veteran NFL assistant Kevin Patullo has been working with the Eagles offense since the 2021 season, and his name has emerged as the leader in the clubhouse to land his first OC job, should Moore leave for the Saints as expected.

Patullo detailed his current role for the Eagles during a recent sit-down with reporters. He’s currently listed as Philly’s pass game coordinator and associate head coach, but he offered a different description: “Half head coach and half offensive coordinator.”

“I get to do both, which is very fortunate,” he said. “I get to see a lot of stuff as a coach that most people don’t get to see if they’re not the head coach. So from that point of view, it’s very unique. (Head coach Nick Sirianni) trusts me, and obviously we’re very close and I get to be part of a lot of decisions. So that’s really valuable to me.”

An internal candidate would make a lot of sense for the Eagles for 2025, as this current hiring cycle has already been picked down to the bone. They could attempt to interview outside candidates like Josh McCown of the Vikings or Jerrod Johnson of the Texans, but it’s easy to see them favoring stability this time over another change in command.

After bouncing from Shane Steichen, to Brian Johnson, to Moore over the past three seasons, Patullo makes the most sense, since Moore will likely poach current Eagles QB coach Doug Nussmeier on his way to New Orleans.
