The Kansas City Chiefs are in pursuit of the first three-peat in National Football League history. They have clinched the AFC’s top seed but may need to reevaluate who is playing in the most important games.
There is a good chance the Chiefs starters will not play in week 18 and get an extended break before their first-round bye. However, FanSided’s Cody Williams urged the team to bench JuJu Smith-Schuster through the playoffs.
“I’m not going to be out here saying something outlandish like JuJu Smith-Schuster has been the focal point of the Chiefs offense since he returned to Kansas City. He hasn’t received more than three targets in any of the last seven games and his high marks over that span were a two-catch, 31-yard outing against the Chargers in Week 14,” wrote Williams. “But he’s still playing roughly 30+ snaps per game and, frankly, we should see that dialed back in the playoffs.”
Smith-Schuster was once a promising young receiver. He was a Pro Bowler in 2018 with 1,426 yards. He has two touchdowns this season and 227 yards. With the return of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown Smith-Schuster’s role on the team has already been bitten into.
Brown has nine catches for 91 yards in two games. He’s played 33% of snaps since his return and that number should continue to rise. He had seven targets in his first game back and eight in the Chiefs’ most recent game. Brown, DeAndre Hopkins and Xavier Worthy should be the Chiefs’ primary wide receivers in the playoffs.
