In the second round of this year’s draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Omarr Norman-Lott, defensive tackle out of University of Tennessee and he’s made an immediate impact early on in training camp.
Given the championship pedigree and talent that the Chiefs have on defense, most rookies on defense don’t get a chance to crack the first-team unit, but that hasn’t been the case for Norman-Lott early on. With training camp officially underway this week, Norman-Lott has seen himself getting plenty of repetitions with the first-team defense and he knows that’s not something to take for granted from defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
Chiefs rookie DT Omarr Norman-Lott says of receiving lots of repetitions with the first-team defense, when that’s not always Spags’ modus operandi: “It’s an honor, I’ve just got to use them the right way. I’m just working on not messing up and playing hard.”

For a rookie to start training camp by impressing a coach at the level of Spagnuolo says a lot about Norman-Lott’s talent level, and if he could put it all together early on, he could have a pivotal role in his rookie season. With Chris Jones leading the way at the position, Norman-Lott will have one of the most dominant players in the league as a mentor, and the Chiefs could once again find a gem for their defensive unit.
