Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes gets major $55 million contract update

The Kansas City Chiefs have the best quarterback in the world, and there isn’t much debate about that.

Unfortunately, the Chiefs didn’t win a Super Bowl last season, but with Patrick Mahomes under center, they have an opportunity to win it all every season.

Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450 million extension with the Chiefs, a massive deal.

Despite one of the biggest contracts in NFL history, AAV-wise, Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports believes there could be an even bigger deal for him in the near future. He added that with Josh Allen reworking his deal to get him to $55 million AAV, Mahomes and the Chiefs could look to do something similar.

“Back in 2020, Mahomes and the Chiefs agreed to a 10-year, $447 million contract that could be worth up to $503 million. While that deal — which has Mahomes connected to Kansas City through the 2031 season — has been tweaked in recent years to give the Chiefs some cap flexibility, the quarterback market has changed rather dramatically. That could mean that they take a harder look at this deal to bring Mahomes up to a respective level…

“With Josh Allen recently reworking his deal to get him to $55 million per season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mahomes and the Chiefs follow suit,” he wrote.

Mahomes looking for more money might be something that interests him, but it’s also tough to justify in a sense.

Sure, if he approaches the Chiefs and asks for a raise, Kansas City should give it.

However, the Chiefs also have to be smart and ensure this helps their cap situation, which it could if they do it correctly.
