Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes answers if this season is Travis Kelce’s ‘last ride’

Many have speculated that this upcoming season could be Travis Kelce’s last year in the NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t worried about that right now, though. They’ve got their star tight end still, and that’s the most important thing as they try to avenge their Super Bowl defeat.

For Kelce’s part, it sounds like he’s as committed as ever. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes praised Kelce’s approach earlier this week.

“If it’s the last ride, you would never know,” Mahomes said, via Pro Football Talk. “The way he’s talking about football, the way he’s talking about working and trying to be even better this year than he was last year, he doesn’t seem like a guy like it’s his last ride, like he’s tired of the job. He’s in here, he’s working. I know his body feels good. I think he feels better than last year before going into last season. I think he’s motivated to go out there and have an even better year than he had this last.”

This will be Kelce’s 12th season as the Chiefs’ starting tight end. He had career-low marks in receiving yards (823) and touchdowns (3) last season.

Kelce will turn 36 years old in October. He’s a 10-time Pro Bowler and has three Super Bowl rings.

The Chiefs began to use Noah Gray a bit more at tight end last season, too, but Kelce did still catch 97 passes during the regular season, just at much lower yardage efficiency.

Kansas City will enter the 2025 season as top-end Super Bowl contenders again, and Kelce will remain a big reason. Improvements by the legendary tight end on his marks from last year could go a long way toward pushing the Chiefs back to the top.
