The Chicago Blackhawks have announced today that they have extended goaltender Spencer Knight to a 3 year $5.83 million deal. The contract will not kick in until the conclusion of the 25-26 season, the last of his current deal.
The 24 year old goalie was acquired by the Blackhawks during the past 2025 NHL trade deadline from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Seth Jones.
Last year in 38 starts split between Chicago and Florida, Knight recorded a 17-16-3 record with a 2.72 GAA and .902 SV%. Over the course of his 4 year career, the American has amassed a 49-33-9 record with 5 shutouts including a 2.82 GAA and .904 SV%.
What does this deal mean for Chicago?
This contract continues a run by Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson of getting key players extended this summer, as Knight joins forward Frank Nazar as the latest to get a new deal this offseason.
With a three year contract, this will be a bridge deal for Knight that will take him to the 29-30 season. This will present a grand opportunity for him to assert himself as the Blackhawks starting goalie of the future over these next 4 years. By the time this contract will be due, he will be entering the prime of his career and the prospects of an even larger payday.
This now leaves Connor Bedard as the looming extension that will be of highest priority for Davidson to get done. It appears for now both sides are content with waiting until next offseason to talk terms.
