Chicago declares August 8th “Patrick Kane Day”

Today, the city of Chicago has declared August 8th as “Patrick Kane day” via Charlie Roumeliotis. This comes on the day that Blackhawks legend Patrick Kane returns to the city on the date of his number 8/8 to give back to the place he called home in the NHL for 16 seasons until he was traded to New York 2 years ago.

This is an honor that is well deserved for Patrick Kane as he will go down as arguably the greatest Blackhawk of all time. He played in Chicago from 2007-2023, in which he won 3 Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015. Kane is 2nd all time in Hawks history in points with 1,225 including 446 goals and 779 assists. Additionally, he amassed 132 points in 136 playoff games with the club including 52 goals and 80 assists.

Patrick racked up the hardware during his time in Chicago. He won the Calder trophy as the NHL’s rookie of the year in 2008. He won the Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP during the Hawks 2013 Cup run. And in 2016 he won the Hart, Lindsay and Art Ross trophy in a year where he was the most dominant player in hockey. Patrick also made 9 All Star game appearances during his Chicago stint.

Kane was named as a part of the NHL’s Top 100 players of all time club in 2017 in the leagues centennial season. The future hall of famer was also named as a part of the NHL’s 2000s quarter century team this past season.

The current Detroit Red Wing Patrick Kane is on the verge of history this upcoming season, approaching some historic milestones. He is just 31 points away from Mike Modano for the title of highest scoring American born NHL player of all time. He is also just 8 goals away from the exclusive 500 goal club with 492. It will be fun to track how much more Pat can accomplish in the NHL before his career concludes.
