Chelsea are aiming to become the first club in European history to win all five major continental trophies when they take on Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final in Wroclaw on Wednesday.
The Blues have enjoyed a strong end to the campaign, with Sunday’s win at Nottingham Forest booking their spot in next season’s Champions League, and Enzo Maresca will be looking to add a trophy to a relatively impressive first 12 months in charge.
That would act as a major boost to his very young squad, and also give the club their first piece of silverware since 2021, and the first of the post-Roman Abramovich era.
They are unlikely to have a better chance given how easy their route to the final has been but they will face their toughest challenge yet in Poland against Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who have been supercharged by the January loan signing of Manchester United winger Antony.
Betis knocked out Fiorentina in the semifinal but are still outsiders to lift the trophy. Unsurprisingly, Chelsea are heavy favourites.

The Blues have breezed through to the final as mentioned, with the level of opposition far below near-anything they have faced domestically. Despite Maresca’s heavy rotation, they have scored 41 times in the 14 games leading up to the final.
With Nicolas Jackson back and likely to start, the Italian will have his first-choice attack and will be confident of winning the game even if it goes the distance.
We don’t expect it to be easy though against a Betis side who have scored and conceded in all but one of their last 13 games. If Chelsea are to win, Cole Palmer is likely to be at the heart of it as he looks to end an up-and-down season on a high.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a somewhat difficult second campaign at Stamford Bridge despite scoring 15 goals, going over 100 days without a strike before his penalty in the win over Liverpool at the start of May.
His general play has improved in the weeks since, and he is the man for the big occasion, having scored for England in last summer’s Euros final against Spain.
