As expected, two European giants will meet in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final as Premier League side Chelsea match up against French behemoths Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday in the United States.
While the two clubs are from the same continent and both compete at the highest level in the UEFA Champions League, there is still minimal history between them. They have not met for almost a decade, and as such, memories will be made in this match.
It’s not often that two of Europe’s biggest clubs face off, and every matchup is of the highest importance.
The Sporting News details the all-time records between Chelsea and PSG, ahead of their clash on one of the newest but also brightest global stages.

Chelsea vs. PSG head-to-head record
Chelsea and PSG have met eight times in history, most recently in 2016, making the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final the ninth all-time meeting.
Through those games, Chelsea have won two, PSG have won three, and they have drawn three, making the all-time history between these two clubs very tightly contested. In those games, Chelsea have scored 11 goals while PSG have logged 10.
Prior to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final, all eight matchups between Chelsea and PSG have come in the UEFA Champions League.
All prior meetings between Chelsea and PSG in history
The most recent meeting between Chelsea and PSG came nearly nine years ago, when PSG beat Chelsea 2-1 in both legs of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 matchup, advancing 4-2 on aggregate.
Across those two games from February and March of 2016, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored two of PSG’s four goals while assisting another. Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot scored the other two for PSG, with Angel Di Maria logging two assists. Chelsea’s two goals came from Diego Costa and John Obi Mikel in defeat.
That matchup marked the last of three consecutive meetings in the Champions League knockout stages from 2014-2016. While PSG advanced convincingly in that most recent tie, Chelsea had moved on in the previous two, both thanks to the now-defunct away goals rule.
The first-ever meeting between these two sides came in 2004 when they met twice in the group stage, with Chelsea winning the initial game in France before playing to a scoreless draw in the return fixture.
