Despite signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in the mini transfer window, Chelsea will be a bit disappointed with the business they have done so far, as they were not able to add any more signings to their ranks.
The Blues were heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, but had a couple of bids rejected for him.
Additionally, Enzo Maresca’s team also failed to agree on a deal for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and will return to the table for him when the transfer window reopens on Monday.
Chelsea are also in the market for a new centre-back after they were beaten to the first major target in the form of Dean Huijsen by Real Madrid.
According to a report by A Bola, Chelsea have now turned their attention to Tomas Araujo, who has just enjoyed his breakout campaign as a top defender for Benfica.
Chelsea have already made contact with Araujo over a potential move, and have fallen short with bids for his services in the past. However, they could be about to return with a more serious offer.

Araujo is one of the most promising young defenders in Europe
Despite being just 23, Araujo has established himself as a regular of one of the bigger clubs in Europe. He will not be joining Benfica at the Club World Cup, though, due to injury.
He has previously been tipped to become one of the world’s best defenders by former teammate Jan Vertonghen.
The Blues are planning a swoop for the young defender and might offer Joao Felix in exchange for the player, as the latter has history with Benfica.
