Chelsea ‘eye shock move’ for Man United star Alejandro Garnacho — but there’s a problem

Chelsea have reportedly entered the race to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, adding an unexpected twist to the transfer saga surrounding the Argentine talent.

Garnacho, 20, has been the subject of significant interest, with Napoli leading the chase following their sale of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain.

While Manchester United are not actively seeking to offload Garnacho, financial pressures mean serious offers cannot be ignored. Napoli, armed with funds from Kvaratskhelia’s sale, have identified Garnacho as their top target and are poised to make a fresh bid.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports News claim Chelsea are considering a move of their own for Garnacho, as the Blues aim to bolster their attack during the January transfer window. However, the Blues will find it hard to tempt United into a sale.

Not only would the Red Devils be unlikely to sell to a domestic rival, Napoli would appear to be in a stronger position given their need for a replacement for Kvaratskhelia and the funds his sale has provided.

Garnacho caught in the transfer crossfire

The Argentine winger is enjoying a reasonably strong season at Old Trafford, with eight goals and five assists in 31 appearances.

His performances have caught the attention of several top clubs. Chelsea’s potential interest comes amidst their search for a dynamic winger to fit into their evolving attack.

Despite being included in United’s starting lineup for recent matches against Arsenal and Southampton, rumors of a potential exit persist. Still, head coach Ruben Amorim’s decision to play Garnacho for the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 victory over Southampton on Thursday may have sent a message about his importance to the team.

Could a deal happen between Man Utd and Chelsea for Garnacho?

Garnacho’s contract with Manchester United runs until June 2028, and the club are unlikely to let him join a Premier League rival without a monumental offer. Napoli remain the more likely destination.

Chelsea are also said to be monitoring a selection of possible targets, including Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, so it seems unlikely at this stage that they would launch an all-or-nothing attempt to get Garnacho away from Old Trafford if more attainable options exist.
