Chelsea are back in the Champions League next season after a two-year hiatus. While they won the Conference League over Real Betis, they are keen to leave no stone unturned in the transfer market.
Chelsea have reportedly wrapped up the Liam Delap transfer, but they are strongly linked with players like Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.
A new name has emerged in this list as Enzo Maresca is eager to bolster the backline. As per reports via TeamTalk, the Blues are considering a move for Everton’s defensive stalwart Jarrad Branthwaite.
The 22-year-old centre-back has developed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League therefore, Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in securing his signature.
Branthwaite’s rise as one of the best young defenders in Europe has helped Everton improve their defensive record in the last couple of seasons. The English defender is mature beyond his years with his impeccable leadership skills.
He has remained at Everton despite some turbulent years at the club. But his leadership and effectiveness in the backline have helped the club remain in the Premier League.

Branthwaite has developed a great relationship with James Tarkowski at the heart of Everton’s defence. The Toffees kept 10 cleansheets in the 2024/25 Premier League whilst conceding the joint-third-fewest goals in the division courtesy of his effectiveness in the backline.
How much could Everton demand for Branthwaite?
Everton are under no pressure to let go of one of their brightest prospects. The 22-year-old’s current contract runs until 2027, and the Toffees have the option of extending it by another year. So they are in a position of strength.
As per reports, Everton won’t budge on the value of Branthwaite. They are expected to ask for a transfer fee in the region of £70m-£75m.
It is reported that Chelsea have identified Branthwaite as Dean Huijsen’s alternative. However, along with the 22-year-old, they have also been linked with Ajax’s Jorrel Hato.
For now, reports from Everton’s camp suggest that Branthwaite is not trying to force out a move as he is happy at Goodison Park. Therefore, Everton are allegedly working in the background to hand him a lucrative new deal to tie him down at Merseyside for as long as possible.
Tottenham are also keen on the English defender, but Chelsea are way ahead of their North London rivals in terms of interest and enquiries. But, nothing is at an advanced stage, nor have the clubs held concrete talks with the young defender.
