Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca makes bold claim on Liverpool’s title charge

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has admitted that Liverpool’s flying start to the Premier League season might leave the rest of the league chasing shadows.

Speaking after a tough week for his side, Maresca said Liverpool’s summer spending spree and perfect opening run could make them “impossible to catch.”

The Reds, led by Arne Slot, invested heavily after winning the title last season. They reportedly spent over £446 million to bring in stars like Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, and Milos Kerkez to their first team.

That firepower has already paid off. Liverpool have opened the new campaign with five straight wins and sit five points clear at the top of the table.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are seven points back in sixth after a 2-1 loss to Manchester United.

Maresca did not hide his concerns when asked about the title race. “If they [Liverpool] continue in this way I think it is impossible to catch them, not just for us, but for all the clubs,” he said.

“They have been doing a fantastic job since last year, and the players they have decided to buy shows the intention of the club to go again for the Premier League and the Champions League, and that is quite clear.”

Chelsea also face problems of their own. Cole Palmer, who left the United match due to an early red card to Robert Sanchez but was also suffering with a groin issue, remains a doubt.

Maresca explained, “The medical staff, they didn’t mention to me about surgery… we need to protect Cole, 100%.”

The manager added that Palmer’s recovery will be managed “day by day” as the Blues prepare for a Carabao Cup clash with Lincoln City before hosting Brighton in the league.

Liverpool may be sprinting ahead, but Chelsea will hope to stay in the race and avoid getting left behind before winter even arrives.
