Former Chelsea midfielder Emanuel Petit has urged the club to try and sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez during the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Argentine shot-stopper has been linked with a move away from Villa Park in the current transfer window, with Manchester United being a possible destination.
The Red Devils even saw a loan move for the player rejected by Villa, but it is believed that Martinez would be allowed to leave for around £40 million ($53m).
Chelsea have been on the lookout for a new goalkeeper throughout the ongoing transfer window and were heavily linked with a move for AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan.
The Blues had reportedly agreed on personal terms with the player, but failed to agree on a transfer fee with the club.
Interestingly, Enzo Maresca’s team were also linked with a move for Martinez in the early part of the window, and now Petit has urged them to rekindle their interest and sign the player.

Petit’s advice to Chelsea about signing Emiliano Martinez
Speaking to EscapistMagazine.com, Petit said: “Emiliano Martinez would be an inspiration in the Chelsea dressing room. I have criticised his behaviour in the past, but he knows what it takes to win titles; he has that experience.”
“He can inspire other players, and he has all the qualities needed of a top goalkeeper. He would be a very good signing for Chelsea, and 32 isn’t old for a goalkeeper. I think he’d link well with Enzo Maresca and the players already at the club.”
“One fear I have is for Aston Villa, I am worried about them with top players leaving the club, I’m not sure where it will leave them next season.”
