Chelsea have reportedly made an approach to sign a Premier League striker who is viewed as an alternative option to Victor Osimhen.
The Blues are reportedly in the market for a world-class striker and have been heavily linked with a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.
However, Osimhen’s wage demands could be a stumbling block in his move to Stamford Bridge.
In such a scenario, it comes as no surprise that Chelsea have reportedly approached Premier League rivals Aston Villa about a potential deal to sign Ollie Watkins from them in case they miss out on Osimhen.
According to FootballTransfers, Chelsea are looking for alternatives to Osmihen due to the fear that the Nigerian’s wages would price them out of a move.
Meanwhile, Watkins has a price tag of €70m (£60m) that Chelsea are willing to pay Aston Villa.

The report also states that Chelsea have been monitoring the English forward since September 2024, and now have gone a step further and initiated contact with the player.
Why Ollie Watkins to Chelsea makes sense?
Though Nicolas Jackson has refound his form in front of goal for Chelsea in the last few games, the Senegalese international has been far from clinical this season.
And so it makes sense that Enzo Maresca is on the lookout for a striker who can lead the line for his team.
If Chelsea do manage to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa, they will get a striker who has already proven himself in the Premier League.
In fact, since the start of the 2023/24 season, Watkins has scored more goals than Chelsea star Cole Palmer. Watkins has scored 43 goals while Palmer has managed only 41 goals.
In a way, signing Watkins instead of Osimhen could be a smarter option for Chelsea as he has already proved himself in the Premier League as opposed to the Nigerian, who has all the attributes to succeed in the English top-tier but is yet to test himself in the division.
