The Los Angeles Chargers have used some of their free-agent resources on some new cornerbacks this offseason, but there could be room for more.
The Chargers lost Kristian Fulton in free agency and don’t seem interested in bringing back Asante Samuel Jr., but with the replacements for those two players being Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste, fans of the team likely want to see more.
Looking at the free agents still available, one veteran cornerback stands out as a player the Chargers should check into. In fact, he is the best available remaining free agent on the board for CBS Sports. That would be cornerback Rasul Douglas.
Douglas is a veteran cornerback, but he turns 31 years old in August and that could be part of the reason that he is still available. The more likely reason, however, is that Douglas is waiting for the right team to call.
That team could be the Chargers. Douglas probably wants to take his talents to a contender and the Chargers have one of the league’s better defensive units. The secondary is where there could be a weakness, but second-year corners Tarheeb Still and Cam Hart should get a chance to be regular contributors in 2025.
Douglas would be brought on as an insurance policy of sorts, ready to step in the moment things went awry. He has plenty of experience, having played in 120 career games with 80 starts for seven different teams. He has seen a lot and played in several different schemes, and that could be attractive to Jim Harbaugh and Jesse Minter.

It could depend on the Chargers meeting the right terms for Douglas, but the opportunity for him to play and play often is there. He had four interceptions in just nine games with the Buffalo Bills last season, so it’s a little strange that they haven’t brought him back on a one-year deal, but he could provide excellent depth for a rising Chargers squad.
