The Los Angeles Chargers are a team that has needed some energy and excitement pumped into the wide receiver position for some time now. A recent trade idea would give them just that.
It was noted that Washington Commanders No. 1 wide receiver Terry McLaurin was absent from the team’s voluntary workout on Thursday and there is speculation that he is looking for a new deal from the team. That has led some to believe that a trade could be in his future.
While that is a giant leap to make, David Latham of Last Word on Sports could see it happening. He has the Chargers as one team that could make the move.
“Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win games with a run-first offense, but that might not be possible when the team shares a conference with some of the best quarterbacks in football. Second-round pick Ladd McConkey proved to be the real deal as a rookie, but the rest of the depth chart leaves something to be desired. Terry McLaurin perfectly complements McConkey’s skillset and should thrive with a rocket-armed quarterback like Justin Herbert slinging the ball”, wrote Latham.
That sounds great, but it also sounds like the kind of pipe dream that rarely turns into reality. While any team would benefit from the addition of McLaurin, he would not be cheap to obtain after the season he just had. The Chargers have made additions to their wide receiver corps and while those aren’t on the level of McLaurin, the team is likely content with them.
Tre Harris was selected in the second round and should have a chance to make a huge impact as a rookie. If the team can get solid contributions from Quentin Johnston and Mike Williams, Jim Harbaugh will have what he needs on offense.
A trade for a player like McLaurin sounds fun and looks good on paper, but it’s highly unlikely to be one that comes to fruition as the Commanders will almost certainly get something worked out with him before the season kicks off.
