The Los Angeles Chargers are looking to get their first playoff win under new head coach Jim Harbaugh when they take on the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium on Saturday, but it would also mark the team’s first playoff win in years.
The Chargers have not had a ton of success and long-time fans have suffered through some tough defeats. It’s a team that has made it to the Super Bowl just one time and has just 12 total playoff victories. The franchise dates back to 1960. That translates to an average of one playoff win every five and a half years or so.
Chargers fans are hungry for a victory and there are a lot of people picking them to go on the road and beat the Texans. If they do, it would be the team’s first playoff win since the 2018 season.
Chargers last playoff win came over Ravens following 2018 season
It was the Wild Card round in January 2019 and the Chargers went on the road to get a 23-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
It wasn’t a pretty day offensively, but the Chargers won the game due to the other two phases. On defense, they sacked Lamar Jackson seven times and forced three turnovers. Mike Badgley belted five field goals as well as the Chargers were able to get the kind of win most Chargers teams have not been able to get.
They then went on to the divisional round and lost to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, 41-28.
Of course, the Chargers’ most recent playoff game is hard to forget. After getting out to a 27-0 lead on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars, they ended up losing by a score of 31-30. The Chargers will be looking to shake off a lot of bad history on Saturday but with Harbaugh on the sideline, it could be the beginning of a new, successful era in Chargers football.
