The Los Angeles Chargers have worked hard to improve the roster following a solid 2024 season that saw them reach the playoffs. But the team has bigger and better aspirations in 2025.
One position where the Chargers could improve is tight end. The team has Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin, two bruising and gritty tight ends who can block, aid the rushing attack and make plays in the passing game when called upon. Fifth-round pick Oronde Gadsden has fans and the coaching staff excited as well.
But the team could use a guy to stretch the field over the middle and take advantage of the cannon Justin Herbert has for an arm. Noah Fant, who was just released by the Seattle Seahawks, would be a perfect addition to this roster.
Fant has spent six seasons in the league with the Seahawks and Denver Broncos and has played in 92 career games, catching 288 passes for 3,149 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Chargers lacked a consistent presence at the tight end position last season, at least in terms of a downfield receiving option, and Fant has the speed, athletic ability and hands to be that player. It’s too much to put on Gadsden as a rookie, so the Chargers could sign Fant to a one-year deal and look to improve the status of the position overall.
After the team went out of the playoffs with a whimper last season, based largely on the fact that Justin Herbert just didn’t have enough help offensively, the team needs to do more to make sure that doesn’t happen again this season. Following the recent and sudden retirement of wide receiver Mike Williams, the star quarterback already has one less guy to get the ball to.
Fant, still just 27 years old, could receive significant attention from teams around the league looking for a known commodity at the tight end position. The Chargers should be among them, checking on what it would take to get him in the building.
