Champions League giants give Liverpool €500,000 p/w Mo Salah problem

One of European football’s fattest chequebooks of the past decade could cause Liverpool a major problem as they aim to extend Mohamaed Salah’s era-defining stay at Anfield.

Salah has been in scintillating form for the runaway Premier League leaders this season, leading the scoring charts in England’s top division with 17 goals and also weighing in with a league-best 13 assists.

The 32-year-old Egyptian superstar is out of contract at the end of this season and, with Trent Alexander-Arnold firmly in Real Madrid’s sights, Liverpool will be desperate not to lose their fourth-highest goalscorer of all time.

What is PSG’s offer for Mohamed Salah?

According to French football journalist Romain Collet Gaudin, Paris Saint-Germain are willig to offer Salah a three-year contract on wages of €500,000 per week.

Gaudin also claimed Liverpool have tabled an offer of a two-year extension with weekly wage in the region of €400,000.

The prospect of a longer contract for more money being in the offing would not appear to bode well for Liverpool, although PSG’s purported interest does suggest a surprise change of approach from the Ligue 1 giants.

After their era of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi failed to yield Champions League glory, the capital club have shifted their focus under former Barcelona and Spain boss Luis Enrique.

A more youthful PSG team without galactico talents claimed the Ligue 1 title last season and have opened up a 10-point lead over Marseille at the summit this time around, going unbeaten through 16 matches.

However, they are in danger of Champions League elimination and have perhaps identified Salah as the man to fill the void when it comes to star quality.

If Gaudin’s story holds water, it would mark a 180 from PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s public stance on reports linking his club with Salah last month.

“It’s not true,” he told Sky Germany “He’s a fantastic and amazing player, but we’ve never considered him, to be honest. We know every club would love to have him, but this rumour about us is simply not true.”
