The Celtics are on a mission to repeat but the Magic threw a wrench into the plan in Game 3 on Friday night.
Boston jumped out to a commanding 2-0 series lead with wins of 103-86 and 109-100 at TD Garden, but Orlando punched back in Game 3 with a gritty 95-93 victory to keep things interesting.
Now the reigning champs, who went 61-21 in the regular season and finished second in the East behind Cleveland, will look to regain control with a comprehensive win in Game 4.
Led by Jayson Tatum, who’s averaging 26.8 points and is likely headed for his fourth straight All-NBA First Team nod, Boston finished the season on a 29-6 tear.
The offense has been balanced and deep; five Celtics averaged at least 14 points, including Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, Derrick White and Payton Pritchard, who just picked up Sixth Man of the Year honors.
Orlando, the East’s No. 7 seed, earned its spot with a Play-In win over the Hawks and is proving it didn’t come just to participate.
