The Boston Celtics have had a wild offseason, but they might be ready to make some more massive moves in the near future.
This summer, the Celtics have effectively torn down their 2024 championship roster. With concerns about the second apron looming over Brad Stevens and the front office, the Celtics quickly made some moves in the summer, most notably shipping out Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis ahead of the draft.
Add in some key losses in free agency, such as Luke Kornet and Al Horford, and the Celtics have been struggling to pick up the pieces. However, there could be one more big move that could take the Celtics back a bit further before maybe making things even better.
Should the Celtics take a risk on Jonathan Kuminga?
This summer, it seemed like almost everyone on the Celtics was available for trade. However, reports consistently mentioned that Boston shut down any trade talks for Jaylen Brown or Derrick White.
Still, there might be a world where White is on the move. With the Warriors potentially inking Jonathan Kuminga to a two-year, $45 million deal, Warriors on SI’s Liam Willerup recently mentioned White as a perfect trade target for the Warriors.
Although it might be a hard sell to get Stevens and company to do a White-Kuminga swap, it could make sense for Boston. Giving Kuminga a bit of a runway to develop and showcase his skills next season without much pressure would be a luxury that he never had in Golden State.
Although Kuminga might not be viewed on the same level as White in 2025, he’ll still only be 23 next season with plenty of room for growth.
