Celtics trade demand for Jrue Holiday revealed

With the Boston Celtics expected to shake up their roster for the upcoming 2025-2026 NBA season, there is likely to be plenty of trades made in the coming months. One of those players likely to be moved is point guard Jrue Holiday.

After playing 62 games for the Celtics in 2024-2025, Holiday is someone the Celtics are listening to trade offers for. Due to the team’s high payroll and disappointing end to the season, the Celtics are going to listen to various offers for their players in cost-cutting moves.

Mitch Fink of the New York Post had an article detailing what the Celtics are looking for in a trade of Holiday during the offseason. Fink writes, “… the team’s front office is looking for a first-rounder in return, plus ‘whatever reduced salary comes back in the deal,’ per Hardwood Paroxysm.”

The Celtics’ trade demand for a first-rounder might be a difficult sell. While Holiday has shown to be a great leader, with plus defense, he is heading into the second year of a massive four-year, $134 million contract with the Celtics.

Finding a trade partner for Holiday may be difficult, as Holiday will be 35 upon the start of the 2025-2026 season, and is coming off his worst scoring season since his rookie season back in 2009-2010.

Boston, in their search for cost-cutting moves, are looking to trade away Holiday just one year into his large deal. Their demand for a first-round pick may be tough to land, but the two-time All-Star could still draw interest from a team with enough money to take on his deal.
