The Boston Celtics’ Summer League squad continues to take shape.
Noa Dalzell of CLNS Media reports that Boston is signing undrafted free agent guard Hayden Gray, a sharpshooter out of the University of California at San Diego, to its Vegas roster.
NEWS: The Celtics have added the NCAA’s steals leader to their Summer League roster.
Hayden Gray, a UC San Diego guard, shot 41.8% from three last year & averaged 3.3 steals per game.

The 6-foot-4 now-former Tritons guard was a 2024-25 All-Big West honoree, while averaging 11.2 points on .479/.418/.688 shooting splits, 3.3 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and an appetizing 3.1 steals per bout across 35 contests.
Gray will join rookie second round selections Amari Williams and Max Shulga, plus returning Celtics Baylor Scheierman, Jordan Walsh, and Miles Norris. Boston is also bringing in three other undrafted free agents: Penn State forward Zach Hicks, Gonzaga forward Ben Gregg and St. John’s guard Aaron Scott.
The Celtics selected Real Madrid swingman Hugo Gonzalez with the No. 28 pick at the end of the first round in the 2025 NBA draft. Gonzalez is currently plying his trade in EuroBasket. For now, it remains unknown whether or not the 6-foot-6 shooting guard/small forward or two-way play combo forward Drew Peterson will join Boston in time for the team’s four-game Summer League schedule next month.
This past season, the Celtics failed to effectively defend their 2024 championship when they lost in a six-game second round playoff series to the New York Knicks. Boston also lost a lot more than that series, when All-NBA power forward Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles tendon late in a Game 4 contest the Celtics appeared on the cusp of losing anyway. Without him, the team didn’t have a prayer.
Earlier this offseason, Boston traded away the ample contracts of center Kristaps Porzingis and All-Defensive guard Jrue Holiday for second round picks and cheaper deals to duck the league’s punitive luxury tax. The Celtics also acquired guard Anfernee Simons and forward Georges Niang in the offing. How the club builds out its roster in what could be something of a gap year remains to be seen.
