Celtics predicted to lose big man to Hawks amid Clint Capela rumors

The Boston Celtics could look much different next season, even in some unexpected areas.

This offseason, the Celtics are expected to be among the most active teams in the league as they look to cut costs moving forward. With some big contracts, such as Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, expected to be moved, Boston should enter the 2025-26 season with a much different roster.

Of course, the Celtics are still looking to contend for a championship moving forward, and they will need their depth to step up in the absence of Jayson Tatum as he recovers from a torn Achilles. However, Boston could struggle to retain some of its key depth pieces, including backup big man Luke Kornet.

In a recent Bleacher Report article, Eric Pincus predicted that Kornet, as one of the top free agents in the league, could be making his way to Atlanta. The Hawks, of course, are predicted by many to move on from Clint Capela this offseason, which could make way for another center like Kornet to take over as a reserve behind Onyeka Okongwu.

Last season in Boston, Kornet started 16 games in 73 tries for the Celtics, averaging six points, 5.3 rebounds and a block. As the Celtics dealt with injuries, the big man showcased his value and made a significant impact as a big body and screener.

While Boston would obviously love to retain someone who has been as valuable as Kornet, his potential market in free agency could make it too difficult.
