Celtics predicted to cut ties with veteran in favor of Klay Thompson in trade proposal

With the Boston Celtics expected to attempt to cut money during the season, many believe that veteran Jrue Holiday will be traded.

Holiday helped the Celtics win a championship last season, providing them with veteran leadership on and off the court.

Not only is Holiday one of the better defenders in the NBA, still at this point in his career, but he’s well-respected and loved by many.

However, this is a business, and as Holiday found out when the Milwaukee Bucks moved him after they won their first title in 50 years with him as a main piece, anything is on the table.

In a recent trade proposal, the Celtics would move on from him in a deal with the Dallas Mavericks. Jedd Pagaduan proposed a trade that would include Klay Thompson and more from the Mavericks.

Mavericks trade: Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson, Olivier-Maxence Prosper

Celtics trade: Jrue Holiday, lottery-protected 2027 first-round pick

“The main goal for the Celtics in any Holiday trade is to try and get underneath the second apron. This deal doesn’t quite do that yet. Absorbing Thompson’s contract is tough, but Thompson’s marksmanship (he made 216 total threes last season at a 39.1 percent clip) could make him a viable trade target for a team in need of shooting (the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic come to mind),” he wrote.

Adding Thompson to the Celtics rotation would be interesting, given how much they like to shoot the three-point shot.

However, he’s a much different player than Holiday at the stage of his career for many reasons, mainly on the defensive end.

Thompson isn’t a bad defender by any means, but Holiday is elite on that side.
