The Boston Celtics’ roster has seen plenty of turnover this offseason thanks to new tax apron restrictions, and the storied franchise has announced yet another change to the group Thursday evening.
After three seasons with the organization, the team reportedly decided to let go of a superstar at the G-League level and supremely skilled guard, JD Davison.
“The Boston Celtics have waived JD Davison,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto shared via Twitter/X on Thursday.
After 36 total games with their main NBA franchise over three seasons, the former No. 53 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft leaves after winning an NBA title with the team in 2024.
While Davison’s time at the NBA level was short-lived, he quickly became a sensation for their G-League affiliate Maine Celtics.
This past season, the undersized leaper averaged 25.1 points, 7.6 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 30 contests. His incredible box score figures ultimately led to Davison being named the 2025 G-League MVP.

Spanning his 3-year career at the G-League level, the 22-year-old contributed 19.8 points, 8.3 assists and 4.9 rebounds on an impressive 47.6% field goal percentage.
His time as a member of the Celtics may have come to a close, but Davison has certainly proven to be one of the G-League’s brightest stars and a player that should have plenty of teams reaching out to negotiate a two-way deal prior to the beginning of the 2025-26 season.
